Body Panel Alignment Nightmares – Part 1

It never seems to end. Adjust door gaps till my head is about to explode! So I get the rest of the front end sheet metal installed, including the hood, and nothing wants to line up. The gaps that I thought I had dialed-in on the passenger side doors are going to need adjusted again.  It turns out that having the front fender installed without the hood on was a bad idea, because I couldn’t trust how far in or out the fender was sitting. Thinking back on this, it was a really stupid mistake… but, I guess that’s part of the learning curve. I know I wont do THAT again! Anyway, so after putting all the front sheet metal on, including inner fender-wells, core support, etc, it looked like the body may be on the frame slightly cocked, because to get things looking “close” , the front sheet metal has to be pushed over to the passenger side quite a bit, leaving the core support pretty far out of alignment from the center of the frame.  So I loosened up the body bolts and used the floor jack to lift the front of the body (from the middle of the trans tunnel) and re-align. Turns out it was pretty darn close already, so I’m still at a loss about why it doesn’t line up very good.  I installed the fin trim too, just to help my eyeball see how things were lining up.  Here’s a  pic with it together, it looks good in the pic, but up close the issues are obvious.
